Individual therapy

Individual therapy allows you to have direct 1:1 support for the specific issue that is getting in the way of your life. Whether it’s to address anxiety, depression, relationship issues, job stressors/burnout or other symptoms, seeing a counselor can help you understand more about your situation and develop a mindset to deal with things in a way that works for you.

WHAT IS THERAPY LIKE?

In our first 2-3 sessions, we will be getting to know each other and I hope to develop a better understanding of your situation and how you’re thinking about it. I see this as precious time to develop the trusting relationship needed as we shed light on your inner world. As we collaborate together we’ll be tapping into your dormant longings, questions, truths and mixed emotions. I believe the things you’re searching for will emerge when given a safe space to explore them with a trusted guide.

WHAT THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES DO YOU USE?

Though I use evidence-based practice tools, counseling with me tends to be deeply relational and insight-oriented. Early on in our work, clients may first focus on symptom relief so we may be talking not only about your situation and how it is affecting your body, thoughts and reactions. We may discuss tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which is sometimes known as the “third generation of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy” (CBT). I’m also well-versed in styles of counseling such as Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). Regarding body issues, I use a Health at Every Size® framework. These strengths-based models honor you as the expert in your life. Using these tools will allow us to create some options early on for symptom relief, if you’re in need of that, and you can use these tools moving forward.

Most of my clients want to go beyond symptom relief, to get a more in-depth understanding of their life experiences and how they’ve shaped their views of themselves and others. Given this is extremely personal work, therapy can be uncomfortable at times and “growing pains” are expected. But, clients often say they’re tired of doing the same things that are no longer working so they’re willing to explore new ways of viewing situations even if they feel awkward at first. I also believe that therapy can be fun and that a sense of humor can be an important part of the healing process.

DO YOU OFFER ONLINE THERAPY OR IN-PERSON SESSIONS?

I offer both! I offer online therapy to clients throughout Washington State. I also offer in-person appointments at my alternate office location in the North Creek Business Park area of Bothell. It seems like life gets busier when we are struggling. With teletherapy, you can get the care you need right in the comfort of your own home, car or private office and skip the long commute. You can even include your beloved pet in our online sessions! All you need is a private space, a computer/smartphone, a strong internet connection and the ability to access email links to the confidential client portal.
